The Deacons’ Wives Circle was organized under the leadership of Dr. Lillian Brooks Coffey. Dr. Coffey served as the second International Department of Women Supervisor of the Church of God in Christ from 1945-1964. Mother Coffey was one of the greatest leaders and organizers that ever lived. She continued to build the auxiliary program and began to organize the units and helps for the Department of Women.
The Deacons’ Wives Circle consist of women who are legally married to a deacon or the widow of a deacon. If a woman was married to a deacon that is deceased, and has not remarried a man who is not a deacon she is yet considered a Deacons’ Wife. Like her husband the Deacons’ Wife should possess the baptism in the Holy Ghost and must exemplify strong support of the church leadership. The Deacon’s Wife is to be proven faithful in the home; caring for the needs of her husband and children. She should be capable of being entrusted with responsible and noteworthy tasks. They may serve as a friendly sister to the single and married women of the church and be a prayerful and concerned supporter to the sick, shut –in and bereaved families.
The circle serves as a strong arm of support to the financial program of the church, through creative fund raising projects.
The organizational structure of this group shall be chairperson, assistant chairperson, secretary, assistant secretary, chaplain, treasurer, and floral committee. Other officers may be added as deemed necessary by the presiding officer.
